As an adult child of an alcoholic, I can relate to the struggles of growing up in a chaotic environment and the impact that can have on our executive and relational functioning. I started work in the field of substance abuse recovery before graduating to work with other adult children of alcoholics and adult children of narcissists. While I was in graduate school, I was in a relationship with someone that had a severe personality disorder. Desperate to help this person, and so confused as to what was happening in my own life, I devoted all of my research to this area. At this point, I can understand and empathize with the profound confusion and emotional devastation that occurs in those affected by personality disorders as well as those that experience this trauma in their relationships. I realize that often those states exist in the same person, as the dysfunction is carried on through the generations. I love working with clients that have complex trauma, personality disorders, or PTSD from betrayal or other relational trauma. I also work with couples that may be struggling in their relationship due to issues surrounding trauma or personality disturbances.
